The Growth and Innovation Directorate of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, based in Seville (Spain), is closely involved in creating a strong and resilient Economic and Monetary Union, ensuring stable financial markets, as well as strengthening and deepening the Single Market, including the Digital Single Market.
The Circular Economy and Industrial Leadership Unit of the JRC Directorate B (herein referred to as “JRC Seville”) supports EU policy-making by providing objective, quality-controlled socio-economic analyses regarding key aspects of sustainable consumption, performs economic analysis and impact assessments and carries out techno-economic characterizations of selected technologies, products and processes.
The contract is intended to provide the Commission with services that support the revision of EU Ecolabel criteria for the product group under consideration.
The EU Ecolabel Regulation (EC) No 66/2010 provides a framework for the setting of voluntary ecological criteria for defined product groups with the aim of reducing the negative environmental impacts associated with the production and consumption of those same products. Annex I of the Regulation stipulates a standard procedure for the development and revision of EU Ecolabel criteria, taking into account the environmental improvement potential along the life cycle of products.
Manufacturers that voluntarily wish to display the EU Ecolabel logo on their products can do so if they can adequately demonstrate compliance with the criteria to one of the Member State Competent Bodies.
