DESCRIPTION

The European steel industry generated about 21.4 million tons of slag in 2012 resulting from steel making. About 24% of these slags are not being reused, representing a severe environmental problem in Europe, but also a huge amount of available material for potential recycling. The RESLAG project seeks to develop an innovative organizational steel by-products management model, based on a life cycle perspective, which is able to reach high levels of resource and energy efficiency. The project will demonstrate that there are industrial sectors able to valorize steel slag that are currently landfilled, if properly supported by the right technologies. To this aim, four innovative applications for recycling steel slag will be developed and tested on large-scale demonstrations.
